9 Volt NiMH low discharge rechargeable batteries can be used for smoke & carbon monoxide detectors as they're slow draining and can last for a long period of time.

The capacity of 9 Volt NiMH rechargeable batteries range between 180 to 300 mAh (milleampere hours). The higher the mAh rating for the battery, the longer the run-time the battery will give you in one full charge.

The great benefit of 9 Volt NiMH batteries is that there isn’t any “memory effect”, which NiCd (Nickel Cadmium) batteries can experience. This means that their memory can’t become reduced due to recharging them prior to power depletion. Even if the batteries  aren’t fully drained, they can be recharged without concern the battery will “remember” what level of power the cell had remaining in it at the time of charging.

Another very popular component to NiMH technology is that it allows for up to 500 charge times. These are called charge cycles. Depending on how often you use your 9 Volt NiMH’s, they could last you years and years!
